Miley Cyrus Supports Occupy Movement With 'Liberty Walk' Clip (Video)
ESPN sat on a 2002 taped conversation between Laurie Fine, the wife of recently fired Syracuse University assistant basketball coach Bernie Fine, and Bobby Davis, the man accusing Fine of molesting him, for nearly a decade. The sports network says it did not broadcast the phone call until this Sunday because it did not have corroboration on the charges.our editor recommendsBob Costas on Jerry Sandusky's Sex Scandal: 'There Will Be More' to Come Out of the Investigation (Video)Howard Stern on Jerry Sandusky: 'They Should Cut His B---- Off' (Video)Penn State Scandal: Bob Costas Lauded for Jerry Sandusky 'Rock Center' Interview Syracuse fired Fine Sunday after ESPN's Outside the Lines played the tape. University Chancellor Nancy Cantor said in a statement addressed to students, faculty and staff on Sunday: "I am writing to let you know that Bernie Fine's employment at the University has been terminated effective immediately. Frankly, the events of the past week have shaken us all. The taped phone call that ESPN revealed today was not provided to the university by Mr. Davis during the 2005 investigation by our legal counsel. PHOTOS: Hollywood's Memorable Mea Culpas Davis is one of three men that has said Fine molested them during his tenure as the Orangemen's coach. Davis was a ball boy for the team for six years and told ESPN that the abuse "occurred at Fine's home, at Syracuse basketball facilities and on team road trips, including the 1987 Final Four." An excerpt of the conversation between Davis and Mrs. Fine indicated that she was aware of her husband's crimes: Davis: "Do you think I'm the only one that he's ever done that to?" Laurie Fine: "No ... I think there might have been others but it was geared to ... there was something about you." As for why ESPN sat on the tape for so long, reporter Mark Schwarz said on air Sunday: "We didn't have a corroborating second alleged victim and so we kept the tape for eight years not really knowing what to do with it until the second alleged victim, Mike Lang, came forward." Many comments on ESPN's website fault the Disney-owned channel for not doing anything about the alleged abuse earlier. Levans4692 wrote, "Where is ESPN's culpability in this? They held onto that tape for more than six years and didn't act. Isn't this what ESPN just lynched Joe Paterno for doing? Why didn't ESPN take it a step further. They possessed an actual tape of admission of abuse and didn't act??? Where is the morality? This sickens me...hypocrites." Pjrcol wrote, "Wait what ESPN knew someone was potentially molesting kids and sat on it!!???!!?? fuc% that espn that is bullcrap especially given the fact that you had pretty much all your analyst air their displeasure on Paterno and Penn St. when it quite clearly looks like you sat on info yourself." Porch 33 stated, "ESPN should be held just as accountable if all this is true. Why didn't they go to the police??" The Fine case is the second major molestation-related scandal for college sports in the past two months, following similar allegations against Penn St. assistant football coach Jerry Sandusky. Is Fincher's Girl with the Dragon Tattoo Too Extreme for Oscars?
Over at Entertainment Weekly, David Fincher plays coy joking about The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo’s Oscar chances. [Some spoilers follow, though they’ll come as no surprise to those familiar with Stieg Larsson’s book or Niels Arden Oplev’s 2009 film adaptation.] How likely is is that the Academy will be so turned off by the extremes seen in Fincher’s film that they’d pass it over come nomination day? Mild spoilers follow; excerpt from EW: “There’s too much anal rape in this movie” to get nominated, he says, half-jokingly. “I think we’re very safe.” Over at Awards Daily, Sasha Stone concurs, less jokingly, zeroing in on the idea that films with anal sex may get nominated, but they have a harder time winning. “He’s right, you can’t win. The internet is a Greek chorus that monitors and judges ALL behavior.” True; The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo is very, very rapey. It’s the rapiest film to come along in a long time, especially given the high profile and awards season positioning that Fincher’s production and recent Oscar cred carries with it. But those violations are also unavoidable and key to the plot and larger themes, and hopefully Fincher’s stayed true to the extreme, semi-unbearable nature of said events in Larsson’s tale; without having to endure (and avenge) them, a key character wouldn’t be complete. As one counterpoint to the rule, Brokeback Mountain won Oscars including Best Director and Screenplay, though Best Picture that year went to Crash. Dragon Tattoo, however, is far more difficult material then most. It’s not your average feelgood mainstream tale, by a long shot, and one driven by the ugliness of men. (Its original title, translated from Swedish: Men Who Hate Women.) So maybe Fincher’s right. And judging from his cautiously pessimistic comment, maybe he’d just playing the Oscar game safe, hoping to be pleasantly surprised by Academy voters. [Awards Daily, EW]

Ashton Kutcher Called 'Idiot,' 'Ignorant' After Tweeting Joe Paterno's Firing Was 'in Poor Taste'

PHOTOS: Ashton Kutcher's Career Through the Years The 84-year-old Paterno, who has had a successful 46-year coaching career, was fired Wednesday amid a child-abuse sex scandal along with President Graham Spanier. The move came in the wake of former assistant coach Jerry Sandusky being charged last weekend with 40 counts of sexual abuse of children. Paterno has been criticized for failing to contact authorities when he was told about possible misconduct by Sandusky nine years ago. "How do you fire Jo Pa? #insult #noclass as a hawkeye fan I find it in poor taste," Kutcher tweeted Wednesday night to his 8.3 million Twitter followers. The message instantly set off a barrage of responses from people admonishing him and calling him names including "idiot" and "ignorant." "Today's lesson? @aplusk Think (get facts) before you tweet! #yikes," wrote Laurie Good. Added Nate Miller: "F--- you. He covered up child rape you sick, geriatric f---." STORY: Charlie Sheen Disses 'Two and a Half Men;' Reasons Show's Declining Ratings And Tommie Sunshine wrote: "With 8 million followers, you MAY want to reserve your opinions until you know the whole story." But it seems Kutcher -- who runs the Demi & Ashton Foundation with wife Demi Moore, which works to fight child sex slavery -- wasn't aware of the facts. Kutcher took down the original tweet about 30 minutes later and then tweeted: "Heard Joe was fired, fully recant previous tweet! Didn't have full story. #admitwhenYoumakemistakes" That was followed by two more mea culpas: "This is an insane story, I just heard paterno was fired, getting the rest of the story now... Wow" and "As an advocate in the fight against child sexual exploitation, I could not be more remorseful for all involved in the Penn St. case." Meanwhile, several of the insulting messages were retweeted by Kutcher, who seemingly went out of his way to say he'd make a mistake by adding comments including "true that" and "agreed." STORY:'New Year's Eve' Poster: Ashton Kutcher, Lea Michele and More Play 'Hollywood Squares' To the people who called him an idiot, Kutcher wrote, "I am" and "Honestly just had half facts man my bad" and "U r right, I need 2b more responsible 4 my voice." And he replied "ignorant indeed" to the tweeter who called him just that. The mea culpa comes just two months after his Sept. 11 tweet got him in hot water. "This without a doubt the greatest day of the year!" he wrote at the time. "Hello football my old friend. Let's us mingle for the next 5 months. TY #NFL TY #Jesus." But he quickly backpedaled, adding: "I got mad respect for the people that suffered in 9/11. Pls don't twist my enthusiasm. /Hindsight...Yeah, that was probably a poorly worded tweet." Eco-friendly Lantern: The Animated Series
'Green Lantern: The Animated Series'Produced by Electricity Entertainment and Warner Bros. Animation. Executive producers, Mike Register, Bruce Timm producers, Giancarlo Volpe, Jim Krieg company company directors, Mike Liu, Ron Morales authors, Krieg, Ernie Altbacker voice director/casting, Lisa Schaffer editor, Joe Gall music, Frederik Wiedmann. 60 MIN.Hal Jordan - Josh Keaton
Kilowog - Kevin Michael Richardson
Razer - Jason Spisak
Aya - Grey DeLisleOffering single-hour tease right before its weekly return next season, "Eco-friendly Lantern: The Animated Series" can be a fantastically made adaptation in the emerald superhero, representing Warner Bros. Animation's first computer-animated foray under creative guru Bruce Timm. Cartoon Network already features a strong hold on boys with "The Clone Wars," which operatic space saga -- the industry a part of a substantial Electricity Comics push -- must further cement the bond. Frankly, once the movie featuring the ring-bearing character happen to be this satisfying, they'd be concentrating on a follow-up. Clearly, there's grounds it was not. Eco-friendly Lantern supplies a huge canvas, the chance to make a "Star Trek"-style space adventure spanning the cosmos, getting quite the hero who's part of an intergalactic space pressure. But wisecracking aliens and references for the "Eco-friendly Lantern of Sector 2814" don't always translate as nicely from four-panel page to reside in-action. Animation solves this issue, and Warner Bros. went full bore to the CGI dimension getting a bold, sleek design that anything resembles "The Incredibles." Add in Frederik Wiedmann's rousing score, plus it produces a near-film experience. The plot -- pretty adult in theme and execution -- produces a sweeping struggle, as villains using red-colored-colored energy rings ambush and kill Eco-friendly Lamps in the distant sector. Word in the attacks prompts a rogue save mission by Earth's headstrong representative (voiced by Josh Keaton) plus an ill-tempered pig-like creature, Kilowog (Kevin Michael Richardson). A substantial fight evolves, while using fate around the globe at risk. In addition, the final outcome produces a ongoing red-colored-colored-eco-friendly war, which explains why it's as well the show won't return until after Christmas. When Warner Bros. greenlit the animated Cartoon Network series, the studio doubtless wanted it could together keep the light flickering between tentpole blockbusters, nevertheless the creative disparity separating this show within the Ryan Reynolds movie only fires up why animation is often better at getting superheroes to existence. The dialogue here, for example, is crisp and sparse, the higher to worry action over exposition. Since it stands, the finish result should leave WB Animation's film brethren feeling eco-friendly, okay -- with envy. With: Kurtwood Cruz. Contact John Lowry at john.lowry@variety.com

Is 'Tower Heist' the Sarlacc Pit of Plot Incongruencies? (And 24 Other Urgent Questions)
A few days ago, a film starring Ben Stiller and Eddie Murphy that can make simply no sense to sentient animals has been launched into theaters. This movie continues to be named 'Tower Heist.' 'Tower Heist' is all about a condo tower in which a heist happens, so a minimum of the title is sensible. But that is it. Little else is sensible. Like a service, here's an response to every question you could have about 'Tower Heist.' Q: What will be a better title for 'Tower Heist'? A: Possibly 'A Really Perplexing and incredibly Improbable Heist.' Q: What really has been heisted in 'Tower Heist'? A: Twenty million dollars that Alan Alda's character may have hidden inside a safe, that might be hidden inside a wall in the penthouse apartment. Q: Are individuals his 'M*A*S*H' residuals? A: No. Alda plays Arthur Shaw, a Wall Street magnate who's charged with some kind of fraud that's never quite described. Shaw also is the owner of a residential tower on Manhattan's Upper West Side. (He most likely did not own the tower, it had been tough to tell. He made a hire, however. I figured he possessed it.) Q: Who's attempting to steal Arthur's money that might maintain his penthouse apartment? A: Josh, the manager from the apartment building. Josh, performed by Ben Stiller, is fired after responding psychologically towards the discovery that Arthur has lost all the tower employees' pensions. Josh then devises an agenda to steal the cash back. Q: Does Josh act alone? A: No. Josh recruits the also-fired Charlie (Casey Affleck), the also-fired Enrique (Michael Pena), the laid-off broker and shortly-to-be-kicked out tenant Mr. Fitzhugh (Matthew Broderick), the still-employed Odessa (Gabourey Sidibe), along with a long term criminal named Slide (Eddie Murphy). Q: When does the audience intend to execute the heist? A: The heist is scheduled on the day that because the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. Q: Last December, per month following the real Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, have you by accident occur to come across the group of Tower Heist and have a picture of the fake float together with your phone? A: Yes. Q: Oh, wait, this sounds type of like 'Oceans 11'? A: 'Tower Heist" could be the same as 'Oceans 11' if Brett Ratner had also directed 'Oceans 11.' Q: Am I Going To laugh throughout 'Tower Heist'? A: Yes. A great deal, really. Q: How's Eddie Murphy's performance in 'Tower Heist'? A: Eddie Murphy channels the Eddie Murphy who starred in 'Trading Places' and 'Beverly Hillsides Cop' for his performance as Slide. Brett Ratner, who has become a fan of eighties Eddie Murphy, without doubt were built with a lot related to this performance, too. Q: Can the situation be produced that "Tower Heist' may be worth seeing only for Eddie Murphy alone? A: That situation can be created. Q: Am I Going To like 'Tower Heist'? A: Here's what's really amazing about 'Tower Heist': It moves along so rapidly and effectively that, through the finish from the movie, the mind has fooled you into convinced that that which you just observed was enjoyable. Q: What's the best way forward you are able to give someone who's going to determine 'Tower Heist'? A: Let us state that put forth see 'Tower Heist' with a few your buddies. Prior to the film begins, create a pact that never, under any conditions, will the 3 individuals a lot as consider 'Tower Heist' again -- not to mention discuss the film. The 2nd that somebody asks an acceptable question in regards to the plot of 'Tower Heist,' that individual may have opened up an unavoidable wormhole of shit. 'Tower Heist' may be the Sarlacc Pit of plot incongruencies. Q: If you are likely to be blurbed within this weekend's advertisements for 'Tower Heist,' what quote do you consider is going to be used? A: "'Tower Heist' resembles 'Return from the Jedi'!" -- Mike Ryan, Moviefone Q: But is 'Tower Heist' a minimum of fun? A: Oh, sure, it's fun. May I would recommend another activities which are fun: Using a swing set, eating vanilla wafers, consuming Capri Sun, self pleasuring. Q: What is the best scene in 'Tower Heist'? A: Slide, work criminal, will not accept assist the others unless of course all of them first commit a criminal offense. In a mall, each person in the audience needs to shoplift a lot more than $50 price of merchandise. Q: How come 'Tower Heist' make no sense? A: Well, to begin with, as pointed out, the whole intend to steal Alan Alda's money -- a really elaborate plan -- is dependant on crazy presumptions. Q: What exactly are individuals presumptions? A: Alda's character -- who's under house arrest inside his penthouse, that is under constant FBI surveillance -- might have an additional $20 million going swimming that has not been paid for for by yet. Josh just assumes that (a) the cash is incorporated in the penthouse, (b) the cash is within a secure and (c) that safe is hidden inside a wall that serves not one other purpose. There's no evidence whatsoever that some of this is correct, however these people all risk serious incarceration according to these presumptions. Q: OK, people do silly things when they are desperate, so perhaps that isn't bad ... A: That does not explain why, throughout the heist, some things just ... happen. There is a huge twist before the heist begins. A twist that puts the whole heist into motion. A twist that appears really elaborate and fairly hard to accomplish, the only explanation for this comes when Ben Stiller states, "It labored." What? How did that actually work? How did you accomplish that, Ben? Like a viewer, I actually want to know. Q: What had you been distributed by Universal in the screening for 'Tower Heist'? A: For whatever reason, a pack of 'Tower Heist' buying and selling cards. Q: Is the existence complete now you own a Casey Affleck 'Tower Heist' buying and selling card? A: Yes. Q: Seriously, must i spend my money to buy a ticket to 'Tower Heist' or otherwise? A: Honestly, as lengthy while you promise not to consider what's happening on the watch's screen or attempt to make sense at all using this movie ... sure. Q: An amount make 'Tower Heist' better? A: If there have been only one scene that described the way the heist labored. Honestly, throughout the whole heist, I viewed using the assumption that, "Yep, this all will be described in the finish and I'll be surprised about how it was drawn off." Not a chance! It simply finishes. No explanation. Q: How can you think the conversation opted for Brett Ratner once the ending was made the decision? "Hey, Brett, this movie does not really seem sensible. No the crowd may have a couple of questions after it's over? "Fuck Them." Q: Following this piece runs, do you know the odds that Brett Ratner Tweets to you again in most caps? A: 10 %. You are able to contact Mike Ryan (together with your caps lock off) on Twitter. Follow Moviefone on Twitter Like Moviefone on Facebook [Photo: Universal] RELATED
